A year since Indian Army conducted surgical strikes across Line of Control in PoK: What really happened that night

New Delhi: It has been a year since India stunned Pakistan with surgical strikes inside the PoK across the Line of Control.

The nearly five-hour-long cross-LoC military operation on the intervening night of September 28 and 29 changed the narrative on how India deals with Pakistan's provocations.
The strikes had come days after Pakistan-backed terrorists attacked an Army camp at Uri in Kashmir in which 18 jawans were killed.
So, what really happened that night:

*India carried out surgical strikes on seven terror launch pads across the LoC.
*The Army targeted and inflicted "significant casualties" on terrorists preparing to infiltrate from PoK
*The strikes came just days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi said those behind Uri attack would not go unpunished

*During the five-hour-long operation (between 12.30 am and 4.30 am), heliborne and ground forces were deployed
*The commandos were airdropped at the LoC, from where they crossed over to the Pakistani side
*As per details made available after the strikes, the launch pads in PoK were in the range of 2 to 3 kilometres from the LoC

*The terror launch pads had been under surveillance for over a week prior to the strikes

*The Indian Army did not suffer any casualty in the operation

*It was reported that around 40 terrorists were present in the seven launch pads and all were likely killed

*In addition, two Pakistan Army soldiers were also killed in the operation

*Pakistan continued to live in denial, saying no such strikes ever took place

*An year ago, in June 2015, the Indian Army had carried out a surgical strike along the India-Myanmar border on camps of NSCN(K) militants. That strike had com days after militants ambushed an Army team in Manipur in which 18 Army men were killed
