Surgical strike can be repeated, warns Army Chief General Bipin Rawat

New Delhi: Indian Army Chief General Bipin Rawat on Monday warned that the Army will carry out another surgical strike, if necessary.

The Army Chief also sent out a stern warning to terrorists across the border who are waiting to attack India.

“The surgical strike was conducted to send a message and if our adversaries do not understand, it will be repeated. The terrorists across the border are sitting ready. On this side of the border, we are also ready for them. They will come here, we will receive them and we will bury them two feet below the ground,” the Army Chief stated at an event in Delhi.

The Army thwarted a major attempted terror strike in Baramulla district in the early hours of Sunday. Four militants were killed while at least three civilians and a soldier were injured after the militants engaged in a gunbattle with security forces in Kalgai area of Uri in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday.

Militants had plans to carry out major terror attack on army camp: Army

Last year, on September 18, four militants had carried out a similar attack on an Army base in Uri resulting in the deaths of 19 soldiers and injuring several others.

A surgical strike was conducted by the Indian Army on September 28-29 night in 2016 on terror launch pads across the Line of Control in Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir.

The sole purpose of the surgical strike conducted in September last year was to send across a strong message to Pakistan after it increased cross-border attacks, Lt. General D.S. Hooda (retd), former Commanding-in-Chief of Army's Northern Command stated recently.
